I just got back from the opening event of this exhibition and I can honestly say that it is one of the best I have seen at the National Museum in Bogota. The layout of the works and the great variation of the collection spanning over four decades is just fabulous. I recommend this visit 100% and I would like to applaud the work done by this young group of curators.
The exhibition was curated by three young investigators and artists: Felipe Gonzalez, Julian Serna and Nicolas Gomez along with the Art Curatorial Department of the National Museum.
The exhibition has been arranged in five groups of works:
Suelo (Ground), Pueblos (Towns), Paisaje (Landscapes), Ciudad (City) and Templo (Temple).
Who was Carlos Rojas?
Generally known as an “abstract” artist, Rojas also created some of his work in relation to the art of using objects that he found in the street and implementing them into his art – similar in idea to some works created by Antonio Berni the Argentinian artist. It is this side of the artist that is emphasized in the exhibition that is being shown at the Museo Nacional (National Museum) in Bogota.
Carlos Rojas: Brief Biography of this Colombian Artist
Carlos Rojas was born in 1933 in Facatativa and studied architecture and arts at the Javeriana and Nacional Universities in Bogota.
Rojas had a successful career and had many individual exhibitions around the world including Japan, the USA, Venezuela, Chile, France, Mexico, Switzerland, the UK, Germany and Brazil.
Carlos Rojas died in 1997. His work has been shown retrospectively at the Museum of Modern Art – Bogota and at the Colombian-American Centre (Centro Colombo Americano) as well as at El Museo art gallery.
