Buenos Dias:
Cordialmente,
Clara Ines Merchan

My family owns a Botero original oil painting. We believe our father (passed in 1997) may have purchased it in 1957 when Botero exhibited his early works at the Pan American Union in Washington, DC where we lived. Our parents were in the Diplomatic Corps representing Nicaragua.

The painting, we have been informed, comes from Botero's early years before he developed his "fat - rotund" stly for which he is internationally famous. The painting depicts a wounded bull in the arena.

The work has been authenticated by the artist.

Is there a market for Boter's early works? Where should we start?

Thanks for any guidance.

I recently visited Medellin and saw one work "Contrastes" and was hooked and an instant fan I did see other works at Museo do Antioquia and was equally impressed. My daughter and I went to El Museo de Arte Moderno where she has a sala named after her and the walkway leading up to the Museo is lined with lots of her promenent works. She certainly was a feminist and ahead of her time. I am trying to locate some of her stuff here in San Diego, California.

He should pay his taxes as they are what has paid for the police , keeping people, from breaking and entering his studio and taking all hos things, Paving the roads he uses to drive his work from point A-B, they also pay for young artist to help get a start(I.E. Grants, artist run centers) I am sure he did not become the artist he did with out some help. If he doesn't want it to come out of his cut He should charge more to his customers. And If he feels that way about paying taxes, I am pretty sure he feels the same about his laborers and is not an equitable employer, he should get of his high horse . Maybe some time in jail would do him good and make him thankful for all he has I would love to owe a million dollars in taxes, that would mean I made A LOT OF MONEY.
