So here it is…my first blog!!!!
I hope what you find here will be just what you are looking for – information on art and artists from Colombia!
Most of what I write about will be the art scene in Colombia´s capital city of Bogotá, where I am based, but I am sure I will be able to provide occasional updates on other cites as well as mention some things that are going on with Colombian artists working outside of Colombia too – on the “international art scene”.
I suppose that´s where every artists hopes to be – but at the same time, when I look at many artists who are “international” (and not just Colombian artists) their work seems to – in my opinion – lose their essence or soul and become tainted with the “universal” concept of appeal. I call this the McDonalds factor – I think you know what I mean – same old stuff in the same old cities…..ok, there may be a mass market for this “McArt” but its originality – which I believe is the lifeblood of the arts industry (yes, it is an industry) and not sooo much with fast food – definitely leaves one feeling that something_is_missing!
Now I do know that we are supposed to be a global village – especially with the internet being all pervasive – but to me, real art can only be found in the soul or mind of the artist (and I definitely have something to say on that matter later on!). That being so…as an artist departs from his/her roots, I am not so sure that their work necessarily grows . . .hmmm,
Anyway, back to Colombia!!! One of the beautiful things about the country is its regional diversity and that too is reflected in and of the artworks that one finds here. But so as not to bore you – and to leave me with something else to discus, I will post on this topic later.
